  15. popularized poinsettias as a living symbol of Christmas; in
  16. Encinitas, Calif. A German immigrant, Ecke became known as "Mr.
  17. Poinsettia" for breeding hundreds of varieties of the flower at
  18. his ranch in San Diego County and pioneering their commercial
  19. production.
